OER (Open Educational Resources) are freely licensed teaching and learning materials that can be reproduced and, in many cases, adapted for use in AU courses without having to apply for copyright release or pay royalties. You might consider using these types of resources in your course in lieu of proprietary materials.
For more information on incorporating OER into your course, contact the Copyright Office.
The OER Commons is an excellent resource for locating open content. It also provides information stating the conditions, if any, pertaining to the use and reuse of various materials.
Wikimedia Commons is another resource for locating free images and media files.
OER Knowledge Cloud, which was developed by Athabasca University, offers free access to research initiatives and data.
